MaldivesVotes.com is the collective effort of a group of artists and writers in the Maldives wishing to experience meaningful change in their lives as Maldivians through the presidential election that is to be held in the country in 2008(?).

The Maldives has a rich history of systematic repression and election rigging, and it is no surprise that the hopes of thousands of Maldivians hinge on the freeness and fairness of the presidential election of 2008. As this will be the first multi-party election in the Maldives, one is hopeful of a freer and fairer election.

MaldivesVotes.com aims to mobilise people from different walks of life, through art, print and online media, to 'get out and vote'. We hope to inspire people through art and writing, to free themselves of old clichés associated with voting in the country, and to believe that voting is no more a farce associated with providing aging dictators the guise of political legitimacy.

MaldivesVotes.com calls on all to vote with liberty, free from intimidation and fear, as only a vote cast with a clear conscience can ensure a future free from tyranny.
